Below: where our name comes from, why we exist, who we are, how to check our company details yourself, what we sell, who makes it, and the terms you buy on.

Where the name comes from

Elmsett takes its name from a village in Suffolk, England, first recorded in 995 as Ylmesaeton, an Old English name read as "the people who live among the elms". We chose it for the picture it holds: a home sheltered by old trees, calm and unhurried, settled over time by the life lived in it.

Why Elmsett exists

There is no shortage of companies selling things for the home. Far fewer stop to remind us what a home is for.

We believe home is grounding. Home is nourishing. A good home helps us slow down naturally and return to ourselves; at home, there is no one else to be. Love already lives in the everyday, and home gives love a place to live. The things we keep there hold the everyday moments through which it grows.

Elmsett exists to protect one feeling: the feeling of wanting to come home. Rugs are our first expression, not the limit of the brand. We are building a world of home that helps people return to themselves.

Who is behind Elmsett

Elmsett was founded in Sydney by Jack Xuan, who runs it as director. Jack studied in the United States and Singapore, spent six years in data and business intelligence across Singapore, Shanghai and Dubai, and has travelled through nearly twenty countries. Making a home in so many places gave him an inner calm that travels with him, and a simple belief: home is wherever your heart is at peace. Elmsett is how he hopes to share that feeling with everyone.

What does Elmsett sell, exactly

Our current rugs blend New Zealand wool with synthetic fibres for less shedding and everyday durability. The fibres differ by rug and are named below and on each rug's page.

  • How it arrives. A 200 × 300 cm rug arrives rolled and wrapped, about 2.06 m long and around 20 kg.

Who makes our rugs

Our rugs are made by an established carpet maker whose other work includes carpets for luxury hotels and resorts, international conference centres and major sporting events.

Our current rugs are tufted, not woven: loops of yarn are punched through a backing cloth and held from underneath by a second backing. That is how their loop textures are made.

Where does the wool come from

The wool in our current rugs is New Zealand wool, blended with synthetic fibres – polyester, nylon, polypropylene or a mix of them, depending on the style. As new styles join the range, each rug's page will name what it is made of.

What terms are you buying on

Delivery is free, Australia-wide. The price you see on a rug is the price you pay: no delivery charge at checkout, no minimum order, and no surcharge for regional or remote addresses.

DestinationEstimated delivery after dispatch
Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong1–3 business days
Adelaide, Dubbo, Toowoomba2–4 business days
Perth, Hobart, Mildura, Townsville, Cairns4–7 business days
Alice Springs5–8 business days
Darwin6–9 business days
Mandurah6–10 business days
Broome, Kununurra8–12 business days

Times start when your rug leaves our Sydney warehouse; order processing is additional, and other regional, remote and island destinations may take longer. We cannot deliver to a PO box or parcel locker, and someone aged 18 or over should be there to take the rug. You can also collect free from our Clyde warehouse.

If you change your mind, email hello@elmsett.com within 30 days of delivery; once we approve the return, the rug is collected within the following 14 days. What we can do depends on whether the rug is still rolled.

  • Still rolled, never opened: refund. We refund what you paid, less the return collection fee.
  • Already unrolled: exchange. Once a rug has been unrolled we cannot sell it as new, so we swap it for a different rug. You pay the collection fee and any difference in price. If nothing suits, we issue an Elmsett gift card for what you paid less the collection fee, valid for three years. The rug has to come back unused: unrolled and looked at, not lived on.
  • Collection fee. $89 including GST for addresses in metropolitan Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra. Everywhere else we quote the collection in writing first and book nothing until you confirm. A rug is too long to post, so we always send a courier.
  • Faulty or damaged. No collection fee. We pay the freight in both directions and charge you nothing to put it right. Please report transit damage within 7 days of delivery so we can claim against the carrier.
  • Refund timing. Within 5 business days of the rug reaching us and passing inspection. Your bank or card issuer may take another 1–3 business days to show it.

Open-box and clearance rugs are not eligible for change-of-mind returns or exchanges. Nothing in our policies excludes, restricts or modifies the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law  (opens in a new tab). If a rug has a major failure, you choose the remedy. Read the full Returns policy.

What does Elmsett stand for

What we believe, and what we have decided against, so you know where we stand.

  • We do not believe more things create a better life. We believe thoughtful choices create lasting comfort.
  • We do not believe a perfect home exists. We believe a home becomes beautiful when it is genuinely lived in.
  • We do not believe luxury should create distance. We believe refinement should make life feel easier.
  • We will not leave you guessing on size. Our size guide shows how to check a rug in your room before you buy.
  • We will not call a rug shed-free. Every new rug sheds loose fibres for its first 2–6 weeks, then settles with regular vacuuming.
  • We will not recommend a rug for outdoors, a bathroom or a laundry. Our rugs are made for indoor domestic use. Wool takes up moisture more readily than synthetic fibres, and damp can lead to mould.
